We thank Jumhal for drawing up the teams. We welcomed Ed back. We had not seen him since the narrow 6 September 2023 defeat Body Cam Leads to Total Uncertainty.

Fresh from his away defeat the previous week VIIGeorgeVII returned to his home ground. Eddie117 took on the captaincy of the Mufti. His advice to the team was to have a good time and play exciting football. Niyi mentioned that Ange Ball is exciting football but it hasn't won anything yet. Eddie117 responded that everyone should enjoy themselves. If we are not here to enjoy ourselves then why play? With those immortal words Eddie117 cemented himself as a person true to the ethos and spirit of the Tottenham Wednesday way. JonF would have been the captain of the Blue Bibs and I assume his message to them would have been ‘concentrate’.

The early forays were quite nip and tuck. The score stood at 0 - 0 for quite a while before the Blue Bibs broke the deadlock and moved to a 3 - 0 lead. They were so solid that there was a slight fear that the Mufti might be whitewashed. The Mufti eventually broke into the match and reduced the difference to one goal but the Blue Bibs remained the masters and opened up another healthy lead. During this spell the Blue Bibs scored one of those goals that will live long in the memories of the 12 people that witnessed it. Herein I deviate for a quick stroll down memory lane. In the late 1970s one of the greatest ever Tottenham Hotspur team goals was scored from a ball out from a goal kick. Two outfield players headed it, the ball did not touch the ground before Glenn Hoddle leapt up and lashed it out of the air past Peter Shilton. It was a goal for the ages and is periodically shown amongst the best Spurs goals of all time. A thing of great beauty.

Well tonight we did not have a camera, so the only record is in the mind’s eye of each of the 12 players who were there. Leonalexis literally smashed his goal kick at Jimmy9, he would later say he knew Jimmy9 could cope. Jimmy9 not only cushioned the ball on his shin but, seemingly in defiance of the laws of physics, arced the ball around a defender to Mash10. As the ball descended Mash10 watched it on to his foot and placed it past the keeper into the net. The ball did not touch the ground once. In a post-match interview the Three Musketeers explained that they had played together for years and each knew what the other was capable of.

When we compare the goals, it must be taken into consideration that the TWFC ball was moving at a greater pace from the keeper to the first player and Mash10 had a smaller target to aim at than the full size goal Glenn Hoddle had. Also Hoddle was able to generate more force on his shot as he jumped and took the ball in the air, whereas Mash10 did not leave the ground and took the ball at the last possible moment as it fell from the air. This meant Mash10 had to use Hoddle like finesse to place the ball into the net for a great team goal. A strike of great prowess, there is something in the air at Tottenham.

The Mufti did come back at the Blue Bibs and reduced the deficit again to only one goal. Sadulla was on fire for the Mufti and the competition was whether he, Elvis or Jimmy9 had the best close control while in fast motion with the ball. The winner of course was TWFC. Jumhal and Mark showed impressive defensive fortitude coupled with the total football ability to run the ball forwards out from the back for the Mufti.

The Blue Bibs redoubled their efforts. They were able to dispossess their opponents and score on the break a couple of times. They were also helped by a goalkeeping howler of a speculative ball rolling through the gloves and between the legs of the Mufti's keeper. JonF’s Blue Bibs stayed ahead of Eddie117’s Mufti all night. The home reign of GeorgeVII came to an end against some of the players that he himself had brought to the club.
