In reading the teams this recorder raised an eyebrow when he noted that Andyhibbert had placed himself, Coach Hagenius and VIIGeorgeVII in the same team. Not being content with having the three most successful team captains of the past year in the same squad he also accompanied this with Elvis and Jimmy9 who are possibly the best in the club at close control. Finally, to round this off, he bestowed BILZ96 upon his team which ensured that he had the man for all positions in case any radical formation changes became necessary.

To cement the gambit, Andyhibbert set Niyi in opposition as the captain of the Mufti. Niyi is a mercurial character, more often than not even he himself does not know which version will manifest on a Wednesday night. Arriving without his captain's head on Niyi did the only thing that any player who is out of sorts can do, he handed the arm band to a better choice.

As we explore this Gambit of Captains we must go back to 25 July 2024 when Eddie117 took to social media to express his frustration about managers saying ' ..."well done" when in reality a real manager will rip ' into players and that playing the wrong option needs to be addressed. With this in mind, and still stinging in the ears, Eddie117 was invited to captain the Mufti. He was given free reign to be firm with his players but he was also told to tread a fine line and not humiliate anyone.

At the start of the match both teams could be seen and heard having a team huddle and talk. Clearly both sides meant business.

After six minutes the Mufti led 2 - 0. MGure had completed a brace. Eddie117 had not raised his voice at all.

5:53 on the clock - early career players please watch Leon94's assist for MGure's goal. It is a perfect example of a player who scans the pitch and plans the next move even before he has received the ball. Sometimes the best is achieved by putting the ball in the perfect place on the board for the next strike. We later began to suspect that Leon94 not only reads the game but maybe sees the future. At 11:50 on the clock - Leon94 can be heard shouting "Israel's there!" He would say this seven times for a full 20 seconds before Israel90 executed the assist for LeonAlexis's second goal. Clearly natural prescience and precognition are allowed in the game, they are referred to as intuition gained from past experience. However, if Leon94 is actually employing futuristic time shift technology to experience the future before it happens then that may be deemed an unfair advantage.

22:28 on the clock - freeze frame and note a player in a red top. Watch in slow motion and see that it is Leon94 walking to exactly where he knows the ball will be in 10 seconds time. This is uncanny, he is caught on camera walking across the pitch in a bright red top and still no one can see him until he shoots. Are time travellers amongst us?

Blue Bibs 2 - 7 Mufti Eddie117 supplied the assist and had still not raised his voice

25:45 on the clock - MGure picked up the ball on the edge of his area and ran the length of the pitch to score the kind of goal that is so good it officially retires commentators because they just scream with delight. That's it I can't do any more reporting. MGure has retired me. Oh yes, and Eddie117 had still not raised his voice.

By the time Jimmy9 had scored a his double brace it looked like the Blue Bibs were on the comeback trail. Just sitting up front waiting like a predator and linking up with Andyhibert had yielded a return of four goals in nine minutes between them.

Blue Bibs 6 - 9 Mufti

The Mufti were being beaten by the same tactic over and over again. Eddie117 didn't need to raise his voice, Israel90 simply man marked Jimmy9 and the threat was countered.

37:34 on the clock - watch Leon94. He again literally walks to the exact spot where he knows the ball will appear in the next 10 seconds. Can anyone defend against a player who can see the future?

The Mufti won the night and for them the moral of the story was that no player needed to be ripped into. All the leader had to do was set out a plan at the start. Lead by example, engage the team to see it through, and make tweaks as and when required.

Things to Note

The floodlights were not turned on and we played a lot of the match with reduced light for the second week running. We complained about this and have been offered a 50% reduction for the next match.
