Proper five-a-side this week and it proved to be football Jim but not as we know it.
S was his normal irrepressible self, able to unlock a defence with a trick and score with a flick. Whilst up front he was a waif-like Ronaldo or Ronaldinho playing in skin tight stretch jeans.
When the game got too simple for S he eventually scored by wrapping his left foot around his standing leg and banging a trick shot into the net thrusting the Muftis into the lead.
JakeFlowers scored for the Bibs and finally it became clear why he is able to net with machine like efficiency. He is a two footed player and therefore can switch the ball between shooting feet so is never wrong footed.
Avvon benefitted from Eddie01 and S leaving the ball for each other back in defence so he kindly stepped in and gratefully collected the ball to score for the Bibs.
Goals were traded. Not to be out done by S JonF brought the ball in from the right and drove the ball into the Garden End net from an impossibly acute angle, the like of which we have not seen since AlMaher scored the goal captured on Ant Cam© . This edged the Muftis further ahead in the match.
Despite the Muftis bringing the stars out Scott was not going to be overawed by anyone. Recent weeks have seen a new Scott, in years gone by he was legendary for the ability to leather the ball into the net from a few strides outside of the penalty area. The new Scott now caresses the ball into the net; like a modern day Hoddle or an Henry he takes the ball to the same distance as before but now teases it into the net flying just below head height. If the Muftis had stars then Scott had brought the cast out.
Like I said it was a mad match, anyone watching would have had a toast, a celebration and got a glass out. It all became too much for S and at one point he had so much time on the ball he climbed up on it and stood there balanced on top of it before going on to create another Muftis’ goal.
At around 6 – 4 to the Muftis the Muftis’ keeper ended up outside his area with his hands still on the ball. Penalty!!! Up stepped the mighty Avvon, one of the most powerful strikers of the ball in the club.
The mind games commenced. Milo chastised the keeper for being off of his line. The keeper inched back. Avvon was picture of steely resolve. He swung one mighty boot at the ball rocketing it to the keeper’s right at just above waist height. The keeper shot out a gloved paw and suddenly Avvon was only the third person not to score a penalty in our home fixture. The keeper just said “where’s my clap where’s my encore?”
If you have ever watched Jean-Claude Van Damme you will know that he can attack an opponent behind him and barely even turn around. Eddie01 had enough and when the ball was floated into him on the left with his back to goal he seemed to strike the ball into the net without even turning around. In years to come people who saw the goal will tell tales in public houses of the wonder of a player who scored with his back to the goal without looking even once. It was a crazy kick which we could call a Jean-Claude. It may never be seen again.
Still both sides were closely matched. At about 6 – 6 Kaichan pressured Avvon to the degree that he put the ball into his own net drawing the Muftis’ ahead.
Goals were further scored until it was 8 – 8. By this time the Muftis had been told off for playing the ball backwards and Kaichan, Eddie01, JonF and S were pressurising Steve and whoever dared occupy the Bib’s goal.
By the time the other team opened the gate the score was 11 – 9 and the Muftis had not just won they had played in a match where some players would have to apologise for tonight tomorrow morning.
Match awarded to the Muftis 11 – 9.
Let’s do it all again next week at Tottenham Wednesday FC
